Myth Buster !

Growing up as a fat kid, I had a lot people advising me about healthy diet, food pyramid and those stuff which at that time was not really convincing (still not). It becomes more hard to take it in when these so called "worried" people are fat themselves :p

To make these advices people came up with a new form of conveying these messages, lying. A promising lie is always accepted no matter how stupid it sounds. These lies passed on from generation and were thought to be true. These lies, as time passed, evolved into myths.

Thank to advance knowledge of science we are blessed with, we can easily identify and prove these myths are not true. Thought some of the myths are proven to be incorrect, people ignore these and still believe what they were thought by their ancestors. As an initiative to chang your mind, I'm gonna go on "busting" some of the very commo myths about food that people still believe to be true.

1) Low fat food are healthier than others

This is a very common misconception. It is true that low fat products have less fat compared to regular products  but fat is required to absorb other nutrients and carry out daily processes lack of fat can disrupt the transfer of message in the neurotransmitter.

2) Dairy products are good for bones

Dairy products are rich source of calcium and vitamin D but bone health goes beyond that. Bone health requires vitamin K as well. The combination of these three are present only In green veggies which you probably hate.

3) 8 glasses of water a day

Water is the most important resource for our body. This common myth started as a 'barely researched about' campaign. The truth is, there is no set amount of water requirement a day. 8 glasses of water a day would have no additional advantages other than what you get from drinking a glass less. It is widely prefered to make sure that the body doesn't dehydrate.

These are just 3 myths we saw. There are plenty more! It's the 21st century and everything is a click away. It is just our ignorance that results in us not knowing about these.

I encourage you all to find out more and "bust" the myth xD

Until next time

  1. Very well said! One of the myths I had come across last year was EATING CARROTS CAN IMPROVE OUR EYESIGHT! This myth came into being during the World War 2 and it's a wonder how it continues to exert its influence on people till date! But there's a really interesting story behind the origin of this myth!....
